My first journey into the Southern Hemisphere brought me to the diverse country of Ecuador for two weeks in July/August. The first half of the trip was with G Adventures’ “Ecuador Quest” tour which kept to the central mainland but still offered a variety of landscapes to take in. Starting from the capital city of Quito, the tour took us South to the highland town of Baños, Eastward into the Amazon rainforest, and finally back North to the city of Otavalo.
The second week was spent wildlife viewing on the famous Galápagos Islands which is situated in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,000 kms West of Ecuador’s coast. There was an abundance of wildlife as expected – most were accustomed to humans and were more than happy to pose for photos.
